Looks good enough to eat...

This has been my first time trying my hand at a winter garden. So different from the summer when I couldn't eat, pick, weed or water fast enough. It's been slow going and I've hardly paid it much attention. When I have gone to my parents (The Mr., The Kidlet, and I live in a one bedroom apartment in a complex that has a gravel lawn and there is no place to plant.) to check on it in the last couple months there have been minimal weeds and minimal growth in the plants I've been wanting. With all the rain lately I haven't even had to check on the water.....

Bum bum buuuuum. Give it a couple weeks with sun and we've got a different story....the garden is like something out of Little Shop of Horrors (without the gore and creepy factor, of course). It's just crazy out of control. I came away with 5 bags and one colander full of spring onions, parsley, cilantro, lettuce (of many shades) broccoli and turnip greens. I passed the colander on to my mum and dad and four of the five bags went to neighbors. I can't believe how great everything smells and the colors are amazing! Glad I got some weeding and picking done before the next rain this weekend.

In other news, on my way biking home from gardening I saw a girl at the community college near my house carry a baby (less than 4 months I'd say) in a Baby Bjorn light up a cigarette in the baby's face and nonchalantly puff away blowing smoke right at her child.

I know I try to keep only positive things on this blog as I have the tendency to be discouraged easily...but I can't help but mention it...I was so angry and it made my heart hurt. I know smoking is a choice some friends of mine make, I don't like it and I worry for them, but they are grownups and it's their choice, but seriously.....a BABY has NO SAY!?!!?!? Gag. I have to stop thinking about it and all the statistics of smoking and it's relation to SIDS. My mind is blown at the selfishness/ignorance of some people...

Sorry to be a downer,

Lovies and livid over lighting up,

-K

PS. Friday is my birthday...and it's a scary one.

What I found at the Thrift store and what I got/gave for Valentines Day!

The Mr. and his clone The Kidlet...who told them to make the same face!?!?!

Two posts in one day...amazing! I realized that I didn't mention the incredible gift that The Mr. gave me nor did I include the valentines we gave each other.

So there you have it! Dance lessons!!!! I can't believe it! I'm so excited!!! It's something we've talked about doing for eons but have never made happen. The Mr. said there will always be reasons not to, time, money, etc. But no more excuses. He called and talked to the teacher and she is setting up an appt. for us to come in and dance for her to be able to access where we're at and what we need. (everything!)

For his gift I got him tickets to go see Nada Surf in SF in a couple months!!! WEEE! We saw them a couple years ago and have wanted to go again, they are a delight in concert and super nice!

Also, I found this blazer for me and one for The Kidlet today at the thrift store...now to find ourselves a yacht. Hee hee!

Lovies and liners,

Sooo, as aforementioned, The Mr. had to work Valentines Day so two dear friends and I decided on Galentines Day celebrations instead. We gussied up and went out to the restaurant where The Mr. serves. Upon arrival we discovered (The Mr. didn't know till he was on shift and couldn't warn us) that it was a fixed menu 4 course meal for more than twice what we spend when going out to a "nice" (ie: not Chipotle) kind of place.

You need some back story for this.

I have this health problem, it is aggravated by food allergies...of which I have a lot. I have purposely cheated only once in the last 9 months that it has been since I found out I have these food restrictions. I feel pretty crappy all the time and I didn't feel any worse after my last cheat day (which was clam chowder when we were at the coast...a cheat well worth it)

Seeing as I couldn't get a specific salad with few things on it as I'd planned....and the Mr. had lost a table in his section due to our reservation...I decided....this was going to be a cheat meal. So we decided to split two meals amongst the three of us girls.

The meal was AMAZING and delicious. The foods I ate that I'm not supposed to were as follows....

Blueberries, raspberries, tomatoes, cheese (I can only do raw dairy) Gellato, wheat, bakers yeast, eggs (in the aoli sauce) um...and I think that's it.
(I am also allergic to several types of beans and tuna)

I expected some metaphorical hammer to fall...but nothing happened.

I had a lovely time with the girls, we ate ourselves silly enjoyed our time together requesting cheesy love songs from the piano player at the restaurant...he did NOT know Ebony and Ivory...what a pity. He finally ended with Endless Love which was pretty awesome. We left, picked up The Kidlet from my parents, drove home, went our separate ways. When The Mr. got home and we decided to stay up (mind you it was midnight by this point) and clean the house...last week was dreadfully busy and the house was in shambles (I'm terrible at house work) we finally fell into bed at 3am but with an absolutely immaculate home. Every floor was scrubbed, not a dish on the counters or in the sink. I tracked down every dust bunny...mwahahah.

The next morning, which was to be Valentines Day with my darling......I woke up with what can only be described as a hangover. I don't drink, I never have and so I don't know exactly what one feels like, but I called several friends and inquired and they said, "yup, that's a hangover".
Light split my head in two and made me want to throw up. Noises split my head in two and made me want to throw up...Everything split my head in two and.....made..me...want...to...throoowww up.

So, there you have it, my foolish "partying" caught up with me and taught me a good lesson. It will be so much easier to stick with this diet for the rest of my life knowing that there is such a definite reaction...ugh, ugh, a million times ugh.

The (poor and patient) Mr. told me to stay in bed but I sucked it up and went out and made us brunch as planned....it was amazing...according to the Mr. I myself was still nauseated. But we had a lovely time, cleaned up from lunch then The Mr. (dearheart that he is) sent me back to bed for the afternoon. I feel so bad that our Valentines Day was a bust, but he got quiet, alone time (he works in the school system during the day so he had all day off till the restaurant at night) reading and writing and he said that made him happy.

Prosciutto, raw cave-aged Gruyere, Provolone wrapped in prosciutto stuffed inside cherry peppers, and Armando's Famous Olives.

Artichoke heart soup, cod and roasted bell peppers and asparagus, and an avocado, red onion salad with white balsamic dressing.
This was me on Valentines Day...and I'd had such high hopes of a cute outfit, being housewifely for The Mr.

My awesome Valentines Day outfit.

Happy Valentines Day to The Mr.

By the sea, by the sea...

This here is the outfit I wore today to the convalescent home that my family has been going to for over 20 years now. We go one Sunday a month and play music and my dad does a bible study. Today all the rest of the family and friends in our band (Sing the Body) came with us. We always practice Sunday afternoons so we figured we might as well have our practice at the same time for a change and just "practice" for the residents. It went well and they were pleased. :-)

Now to get the kidlet down for a nap and to work on deciding what to wear for my date tonight. The Mr. has to work tonight at the restaurant so I am taking W. out for a date and A. has decided to join us as well. Girl date! W's boyfriend just moved away to Washington a couple days ago so we shall attempt to merry-make and keep her in goods spirits. We plan on going to The Mr's place of employment, sit in his section and harass as much as we can get away with.

What to wear, what to wear!?!?!?!

Hope you're having a lovely day!

Lovies and lipstick,

-K

ps. I always forget to include this..

Top: Thrifted
Skirt: Pendleton Thrifted
Collar: Thrifted
Shoes: Macy's Clearance

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!!

In a rare appearance, The Mr. joined me for a woeful little love song that is a favorite of ours for many reasons.

1. It's adorable.

2. I can play it (kind of) on my banjolele

3. Patience and Prudence were charming.

4. Most importantly, he has a man crush and I have full blown girl crush on Steve Martin. He and Bernadette Peters do this song much better than we do and we love them for it...and many other reasons.

5. Not on the list of reasons why we love the song but in need of carrying the importance of being numbered is this little tidbit...

I will fight you if you speak ill of Mr. Martin. The man is a genius...at many things...not just comedy. I mean honestly, have you HEARD him play the banjo? Stellar.

Heavens, what on earth does this Steve Martin tangent have to do with Valentines Day?!?!?!?

Nothing....and so I bid you a lovely evening/morning/day

Lovies and lady luck,
